Kjellgren Alkire Kjellgren Alkire was born, baptized and raised in suburbs of Phoenix, Arizona. During a decade of exile away from the desert, he pursued his spiritual quest for the perfect fish taco, traveling Andean countries playing stringed things, studying homiletics with liberal Lutherans, and working for nonprofits in Minneapolis. He currently teaches printmaking and gallery practices at Arizona State University and drawing at Phoenix College. He lives in a dusty tan East Valley condominium with two pug dogs, the love of his life and their rockstar toddler. Kjellgren Alkire's graphic works and interactive installations focus on the meaning and function of Christian subculture. Having been trained as both a printmaker and preacher, he bends these two disciplines into a singular fine art practice, constructing spaces and events referential of carnival games and religious gatherings. |
