| Carrie Bloomston
Carrie Bloomston employs multiple painting techniques to create layered paintings which explore the tenuous boundaries between abstraction and representation, as well as the evocative qualities of gestural mark-making. Bloomston melds wildly divergent painting languages to suit the needs of each her works. Traditional western oil painting methods such as glazes and sfumato meet the rapid brush strokes of Zen brush and ink painting in these seeming landscapes.
Bloomston received her BFA in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design in 1994. She has held several internships in New York including an assistantship for sculptor Kiki Smith and an internship at Gagosian Gallery in SoHo. Group shows include New York, Arizona, Alabama and Rhode Island. Currently, Bloomston resides in Phoenix, Arizona where she has her studio and is a contributing writer for Shade Magazine. This is Carrie's first solo show since 1990. |
