I am constantly exploring the ability to play with scale and material in an effort to change the universal perception of sculpture. Working predominately with wood, steel and found objects; I explore form by creating repetitive geometric units that transform themselves into spirals and helixes (most recently I have been inspired by conical helixes, the Archimedean spiral, and Fibonacci sequence).  The mathematical definition of a spiral is, “any plane curve formed by a point moving at constant speed, whose distance from a fixed point increases at a specific rate”; however, in my work I take liberties with the point, speed and rate.  The resulting form creates a dynamic visual effect, manipulating the viewer to see the whole as being greater than the sum of its parts; while, simultaneously emphasizing the individual uniqueness of each element. Addressing the human body, concealing vs. defining, and spatial awareness are also points of focus in my work.
