Marc Leone I am currently exploring through painting, a parallel between earth processes and human processes. My life, my work, and my research aim to give voice to these universal conditions, and to seek out and understand the material and spiritual forces that shape us. Specifically, I engage the viewer through metaphoric spatial landmasses, the use of Earth material, and raw, heavy physicality, creating a language to render my concern for these inter-relationships. I paint by constructing and deconstructing these works; I see them as “crusts” upon which to thrust mark making. Further, I deeply massage in elemental carbon and Earth mineral graphite at each layer to unify the works in a highly physical manner. This method blurs lines, layers, and boundaries, as I affirm my strong belief in universal interconnectedness. |
