Brianna Noble

Artist Statement

I’m Brianna Noble, an artist. I create figurative oil paintings. The essence of my work is an exploration of my experience in my body. I describe myself as an extremely American Black Mexican. Black girls have always and will always exist, in all of our multitudes. I feel that I must do my part in making art with a purpose. I express what choices I make with my body, my life, my surroundings. I explore the tangle of existing in America in a Black body that was raised with Mexican values. I work to evolve the complications of being in this country so it can no longer hinder my cultural roots, but instead find the freedom to exist outside of its oppression. I strive to depict a future where I can see me and my people as actually free. Often seeming “fantastical”, I work to discern why it isn’t immediately deemed realistically possible. This allows me to be able to explore what the future could be, what euphoria looks like, and the world I want to see.
