Charles Kurre : Floating Worlds

  • eye lounge 922 North 5th Street Phoenix, AZ, 85004 United States (map)

Opening, Friday, November 18th, 6 - 9 PM

Exploring the natural world is a driving force in my life. I've drawn on these experiences to fuel my creative pursuits in every imaginable way; literally, figuratively, metaphorically, and in ways, I don't have words to express. My work is an aggregate of moments measured in time and memory, narratives of transformation and histories of change, stories of competing circumstances, uncertain outcomes, and reshaped beliefs. It's a perspective defined by a life lived out of doors as a wilderness adventurer, urban explorer, and avid gardener.

Charles Kurre guided professionally in the Grand Canyon and Zion National Parks and back-country programs for at-risk youth. He managed Arizona state-wide efforts for a sustainable growth initiative. In Chicago, he directed community outreach for a transportation non-profit, integrating bicycling into the transportation mix. Charles continues to guide interpretive hiking and biking tours throughout the desert southwest.

Charles Kurre is a Phoenix, Arizona-based artist and member of Eye Lounge artist collective. His work appeared in New American Paintings, featured in Phoenix Home & Garden Magazine, and reviewed by Art News, Art & Antiques, Dialogue, New Art Examiner magazines, the Chicago Tribune, and the Chicago Sun-Times, and the Chicago Reader newspapers. An Arizona Commission on the Arts (ACA) Project Grant recipient, Charles, curated an exhibition for the ACA Traveling Exhibition Program. The ACA exhibition, Language/Image/Object, explored the power and magic of language on visual expression.
